Willis-Knighton/Independence Bowl Community Service Scholarship applications are available in my office. This is a $2500 scholarship that goes to a graduating senior in Bossier Parish. It has been given for the past 2 years and a Parkway senior has won it both times!!! You must have a 3.0 GPA and community service. THIS APPLICATION MUST BE RETURNED TO ME BY OCTOBER 29. The VFW sponsors the Voice of Democracy audio essay contest each year with cash prizes. Just write an essay , record it on a cassette, and turn in to me along with short app. Theme is “Service and Sacrifice by America's Veterans Benefit Today's Youth by….” Pick up app in my office. All entries must be turned in to me by Oct. 29.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program is open to African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American students. You must have a 3.3 GPA, community service, extracurricular activities, and be eligible for a Pell Grant (meaning low to medium family income) to apply. This is a huge scholarship that can continue through graduate school. It is an extensive application process, so you would need to get started soon if you wish to qualify.
